Cute Cats and Cactuses

Next stop on the journey – Monterosso, Cinque Terre, Italy. It’s very Italian with little shops and winding streets. Last year there was a huge flood though, and on some buildings you can see lines where the mud and water came up to – almost up to my shoulders! And everything on the first floor of everything had to be re-done.
The beaches were amazing because the water was turquoise and I literally could swim among schools of fish. But there was a statue randomly in front of the beach and I don’t know what it was for. . . his name was Giusseppi Garibaldi though, maybe Monterosso loves garibaldi biscuits. . . I guess I’ll never know.
Cinque Terre is a group of five small towns, all close together, so while we were there we hiked to another one of the towns, Vernazza. Something showed up on the path that was quite strange. . . it was an extemely random and rather cute. . . meditating cat! Just laying on a table on the side of a path in the middle of a cliff. It might need a name, if anyone wants to suggest one. . .
It’s a shame that we couldn’t sample much good Italian food (well, we did have ravioli on Darragh’s birthday and a huge pizza on our first day); we mostly feasted on Liah’s new favorite – nutella! She calls it “nutzarella” though.
Ever since I learned about the different plants in Italy last year, I’ve been excited to see lemon trees, orange trees, olive trees, cactuses and palm trees. I think the word is cacti but I prefer cactuses.
Thank you.
